Arsenal’s start to the season has not been as glittering as some would have hoped, but a win against Manchester City this weekend would put the gloss on a respectable start to their campaign. In a repeat of the season’s curtain raising Community Shield, in which Arsene Wenger’s reds ran riot against a hapless City, Arsenal are in dire need of a repeat result in order to boost their early season positioning.
They sit 7th, having been rescued by an opening day 90th minute Aaron Ramsey strike against Crystal Palace to hand them their only win so far, followed by a similar late show at Everton and a disappointing draw most recently at newcomers Leicester.
City have enjoyed a more positive start to the season despite their loss at Wembley, beating Newcastle 2-0 convincingly before turning the screw against Liverpool at Eastlands the week after. Their latest defeat at the hands of Stoke will surely be a “minor blip” on the holding champions’ record, who fell foul to Mame Biram Diouf’s pitch-long run.
Aaron Ramsey could miss the clash in a turn up for the book for Manuel Pellegrini, with the Welshman picking up a knock on international duty in Andorra this week. Having scored at Wembley, and registering two more since, the midfielder would surely be missed, while Alexis Sanchez has two in his last two.
Before their shock against Stoke, Sergio Aguero had the same record while Stevan Jovetic grabbed a brace in the 3-1 win against Liverpool.
The champion’ bounceback-ability will be tested this time round while the Gunners will be desperate to fire their season into gear.
